When added security is enabled, you'll use a 6-digit code along with your password each time you sign in. An authenticator app generates that code on your device. The code changes every 30 seconds, keeping your account safe even if someone else learns your password.

Changing your device?
If you change devices, your authenticator app won't move automatically. To ensure your authenticator app and your settings move over to your new device, enable your backup service such as iCloud or Google account.
